Why do I write?

I write because I can play God – my characters do what I ask them to when I want them to.

I write because I write better than I speak – when the words are all muddled up because the mind is too fast for my mouth to keep up with, a keyboard comes to my rescue like a knight in shining technology.

I write because my muse inspires me to – because she creates a chaos of words, a whirlwind, no less, crowding my thoughts till I indulge her and siphon the chaos out onto paper.

I write because otherwise I have no way of letting you know how I feel about you – I’m too shy to tell you how much you mean to me, how awesome it is that I can call you friend. I’d rather crack you up with jokes of my stupidity, rather than get touchy-feely. So I write to tell you that you’re awesome and hope fervently that someday you’ll stumble around and find my words.

I write because words are beautiful – the cycle of reading a new word and understanding the beauty of it is complete only when I become capable of using it in that perfect sentence that does it complete justice.

I write because I can’t not write – to feed the need to splatter the Word document with everything that I just cannot leave rattling within.

I write because I want to create – create masterpieces that the world identifies with, that the world’s mind is blown. To create interesting collaborations of words that give birth to pictures in the mind of the reader; my success is complete when the picture is the same one I had in my mind while I was creating.

I write because I want to understand myself – the happy ending indicates bliss ruling the mind and heart, the murder means my inability to gain control in real life, the abstract talks of multiple threads of fantasy weaving their way through the brain that desperately needs a break from stark reality.

I write because everyone has a story to tell.
I write because I can.

Why do you write?

  1. I write for every reason you mentioned. I write to free my mind of the dreams that come to me for no reason and make me tell a story.

  6. Beautiful! Each of us write for one or more reasons..I identify with a few of yours..One of those being I'm able to express better in written word than when I speak...This has inspired me to do a post on why I write as well!

  7. I too can better express myself on paper than I do face to face. I loved this:

    "I write to understand myself."

It is most relating post of yours. I write to express my frustation and agony, I write to leap into the world that is entirely mine at times when I am repelled by the actual world. I write to live the kind of life I want to have rather than the one I have. I write to imaginatively put myself into situations and see how I would think and act int those situations and to understand my feelings in multiple situations, I write because I love the idea of living so many lives in form of characters I create and I write because I feel I am preserving my mind in form of words to some extent. I write to clear my head, to think straight and I write becaue it is my alter ego. It is my escape. It is my passion, my hobby my everything. It is me :)

    Wow!

  11. when i was kid,i was upset with things around like people suffering in poverty and i was intolerant of bad behavior. i used to dream of attaining supernatural powers to change whole world or i want be like a superman or he-man.as i started growing with age, i used to think what was the reason for all this? as i realised how this world works,i realised that all magic and supernatural powers are fiction or myth and i also came to conclusion that its hard to change basic attitude of people.being introvert from my childhood,i din't know what to do with the wisdom i have attained .being alone gives me lots of time to write millions of millions of lines as anonymous without expecting anything.its more a satisfaction when you offload your thoughts instead of saving your wisdom for fair weather day or selling it for a price.hmm i started playing god or superhero by mind with whatever name comes to my mind in virtual world. i did my best to change this world through writings,i dunno how many people have accepted it or rejected it. i just wrote millions of lines from my teenage days.ram is just a name,he doesn't exist. :-)

but i hate reading,i never bought a book. i get bored to death reading a book but i can spend millions of years thinking alone and i can write millions of lines on my own. :-)

  12. Beautiful, I write because I can - That's the underlying thing to all these reasons. I write because I rediscover myself in ways I wouldn't have normally thought. :)

  13. Oh I love this! You've conveyed it so beautifully. I agree that everyone has a story to tell. And I loved the line 'I write because I can't not write'. I totally identify with that.

  14. How brilliantly you have said it all. Words are beautiful... probably the most beautiful creation of human mind. The way it impacts people, the deep underlying meaning!! I write because if I don't I will start talking to myself, which isn't such a great idea :P
