The Book Meme aka Bookporn

Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror?

Surprisingly, horror. Surprising because I, quite literally, hide under the covers during the entirety of a horror movie. That is only if someone emotionally blackmails me into watching one. Reading horror though, right up my alley.

Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback?

Any damn thing. As long as they have pages with words on them.

Amazon or brick-and-mortar?

Brick and mortar, any day. The ability to feel the spines, smell the smells and read the excerpts is unmatched, as yet, by online stores.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?

Not B&N. Dunno what the other one is.

Bookmark or dog-ear?

I know booklovers will cringe but both. I love bookmarks. I also love the character that dog-ears lend to books :)

Asimov’s Science Fiction or Fantasy & Science Fiction?

Fantasy & Science Fiction. More.

Alphabetize by author, alphabetize by title, or random?

Random. Despite having other OCDs, this doesn’t affect me.

Keep, throw away, or sell?

WUT. Who the hell throws books away?
Sell - maybe, I’ve happily sold off a few Chetan Bhagats to buy Chuck Palahniuks
But otherwise, always, always keep.

Keep dust-jacket or toss it?

Keep. They complete the book.

Read with dustjacket or remove it?

Remove it. I manage to crumple them otherwise, which I don’t like.

Short story or novel?

Novel. Novel. NOVEL.
Short stories only if I have nothing to do at work and can’t get out my book

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?

LOL :P I try to stop reading at chapter breaks but end up doing the read-just-a-little-more till I fall asleep with the book on my face every single time.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time?”

Dark and stormy nights have so much more potential for murder and mayhem.

Buy or borrow?

Both. Buy because some you just have to own. Borrow because I don’t have a house of my own yet so the possibility of having to give up my books if I move cities/countries is terrifying enough for me to buy less and borrow more.

Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendations, or Browse?

Browse. Also, mooch off titles that I find interesting from others on my friends list.

Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)?

Either.
No, actually, collection. Have read anthologies, not a big fan of the jumbled writing styles, authors get lost in them.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?

Cliffhanger. Or I feel cheated.

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading?

How about all-the-time reading? ‘swat I like best.

Standalone or series?

Doesn’t matter.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?

Favorite genre series?

Whodunit. Sherlock Holmes.

Grandpa has copies very similar to these and they are a HUGE part of my childhood.

Currently reading?

P.S: Meme stolen from here
P.P.S: I tag Aathira and Leo. And anyone else who wants to pick it up :)

  4. Whoa! That's a pretty long post.

When I first saw that you sold away a few books, I thought to myself that I could never ever sell away. Then I read CB. It makes sense. I haven't even bought them in the first place. :P

I would have picked it up, but I am not a voracious reader as I used to be. -_-

    1. WUT. By word count, this is, by far, the shortest post I have ever written! -_-
I also didn't buy them, they were gifted by someone who clearly didn't know me well :/

  5. Don't always have bookmarks with me, but I hate dogearing :P I remember the page number instead.

I either sell or give to the library. Throw away, no. Definitely not!

All time reading would be perfect :D I do that at times, but can't always coz of work.

    3. I do have bookmarks, just that they always go missing or get chewed on (by pets)
BUT I will take you up on that offer :D

    4. Well, you could multitask :P Get a 15cm steel scale and use that as a bookmark.. ;) Long lasting, and practically unchewable.

  6. Thank you for doing this! I cringed at dor-ears.Sorry couldn't help it. And throw away? I might kill if I meet someone who does that. I used to borrow for the same reason, not to get drowned under books in my rental house but next month onwards, I am moving to my place which has a separately built bookshelf in both the bedrooms :D Yes! I can buy all the books I want!

  7. Dog earing? No!!! Thanks for the tag, Love :) I shall do the post soon. And I can't stand arranging my books in any order either. I love my randomly arranged, non-coordinated bookshelf very much!
